Nutritional therapy

The human body is truly amazing. The fact that we can get up every day and carry out the hundreds of thousands of tiny actions that create this thing we call life is down to our own biology. However, it’s easy to forget that our aim in life should be to thrive rather than simply survive. Many people accept mediocre wellbeing, taking their symptoms for granted and blaming their environment or their advancing years. They are encouraged by a health system that is quick to medicate and lacks the time to dig any deeper.

It doesn’t have to be this way. Nutritional therapy focuses on helping you regain your balance and optimise your vitality using diet and lifestyle changes. I use the functional medicine model to examine the intricate web of connections between all body systems which can easily become imbalanced. I then use evidence-based science to help join the dots and uncover potential root causes for the problems you’re experiencing. To do this I take the time to listen to your story; your medical history, your living and working environments and lifestyle are all crucial parts of the jigsaw.

Core to this model is treating you as an individual

A quality practitioner does not employ a cookie cutter approach but instead understands that each of us has a unique health footprint. Our genetics, life experiences, preferences and priorities mean that we all benefit from different advice, so there will be no ‘one size fits all’ solutions here. Instead, I will offer you a practical, down to earth plan that is bespoke to you, works with your lifestyle and aims for long-term change rather than quick fixes.

Importantly, I’ll always explain the ‘whys’ as well as the ‘whats’ so you have a solid understanding of the changes I’m suggesting.

Yes! A Registered Nutritional Therapist can either offer support for a specific health condition or simply advise on how to make improvements to your current diet and lifestyle to allow you to boost your wellness. Below are a few examples of areas that can be covered:

  • Heart health, blood pressure and cholesterol concerns

  • Low energy and fatigue

  • Stress, depression and anxiety

  • Poor immune function, allergies and intolerances

  • Chronic health issues such as multiple sclerosis, chronic fatigue or osteoporosis

  • Prevention strategies to avoid future health issues

  • Digestive complaints such as bloating, pain, reflux, constipation and diarrhoea and diagnosed conditions such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO)

  • Fertility and hormone imbalances

  • Weight management

  • Blood sugar management

  • Skin conditions

Because of my own experiences I specialise in gastrointestinal health. I not only help people to understand what lies at the root of their uncomfortable digestive issues so they can enjoy life without limits, but also demonstrate how gut health can be linked to many other seemingly unrelated complaints.

Nutritional therapy is not a replacement for conventional medicine. I work in collaboration with GPs and other healthcare practitioners to ensure you get safe, holistic care.

Finding a reputable therapist

Anyone can call themselves a nutritionist after buying a spurious ‘qualification’ on the internet, however to ensure that you receive a quality service it’s crucial that you choose an individual who has undergone in depth training from a trusted school. By checking that your therapist is registered with appropriate regulatory bodies such as BANT, the CNHC and the ANP you can be confident they are a legitimate practitioner with clinical experience and comprehensive insurance.
